Presidente Costaricense cuestiona alto gasto militar en Latinoamerica

Se aprobó la creación de la Organización de Naciones de América Latina y el Caribe. Cancún, México. El presidente de Costa Rica, Oscar Arias, criticó este martes que muchos países de América Latina inviertan fuertemente en la compra de armas mientras se quejan de la pobreza, y lamentó la ausencia de Honduras en la Cumbre de la Unidad en el balneario mexicano de Cancún. “¿Con qué derecho se queja América Latina de su pobreza, si gasta al año casi 60.000 millones de dólares en armas y soldados?”, dijo Arias al participar por última vez en una Cumbre de Río, antes de dejar la presidencia de su país. “Es lamentable que en esta cumbre de la Unidad se reúnan países que se arman los unos contra los otros y también lamentable que se encuentre ausente el gobierno de Honduras, cuyo pueblo es víctima del militarismo y no merece castigo sino auxilio”, enfatizó el mantario de Costa Rica y premio Nobel de la Paz. El presidente consideró que la carrera armamentista en América Latina algunas veces está dirigida a combatir “fantasmas” y que el gasto militar en la mayoría de los países de la región “es inexcusable frente a naciones de pueblos cuyos mayores enemigos son el hambre, el analfabetismo, la desiguladad”. Arias se despidió de sus homólogos latinoamericanos en la cumbre que se celebra en México y en la que se aprobó la creación de una nueva organización de naciones de América Latina y el Caribe, sin Estados Unidos.

Cancun, Mexico-  Costa Rica’s President Oscar Arias, criticized Tuesday that many Latin American countries invest heavily in buying weapons while complaining of poverty and regretted the absence of Honduras at the Summit of the Unit in the Mexican resort of Cancun.  “What right do we have to complain of poverty in Latin America, when annually millions is spent on weapons and soldiers?” Arias said at the last summit in Rio before leaving the  presidency of his country .

“It is regrettable that at this summit meeting of the Unit arming countries against each other. Also regrettable is that the government is absent from Honduras, whose people are victims of militarism and do not deserve punishment, but help,” emphasized Mantario Costa Rica and Nobel Peace Prize.
The president said that the arms race in Latin America is sometimes aimed at fighting “ghosts” and that military spending in most countries of the region “is inexcusable against nations of people whose greatest enemies are hunger and illiteracy The disgruntled�
Arias said goodbye to their American counterparts at the summit held in Mexico that approved the creation of a new organization of nations in Latin America and the Caribbean, without America.
